A teenage Muslim convert, imprisoned for plotting a terror attack at a music festival, has allegedly stabbed 10 prison officers since his incarceration.
The British teenager, whose identity cannot be disclosed, was arrested at age 15 after the FBI uncovered his plan to attack the Isle of Wight music festival. He was sentenced to seven years in custody.
Court proceedings revealed that the boy had researched knives, stab vests, pick-up trucks, and the festival’s security measures. However, he abandoned the attack due to his inability to drive or obtain a vehicle. Instead, he planned to target a teacher at his special education unit, whom he believed had insulted Islam, but he was arrested before carrying out the attack.
When detained, he was found with a knife in his bag, along with farewell notes addressed to his mother and grandmother, urging them to convert to Islam. His activities had come to the attention of UK counter-terrorism police following intelligence shared by the FBI from the messaging platform Discord.
The court heard that the teenager had adopted an extremist Islamic ideology and intended to attack the festival in 2022. Since his arrest, he has reportedly committed 18 separate offenses, including assaults on staff at his detention center using improvised weapons.
Now 17, he is held at Feltham Young Offender Institution in West London, where reports suggest he has continued to assault staff. Despite this, he is said to enjoy a relatively comfortable life in custody, with access to a private cell equipped with a TV, DVD player, games console, desk, and ensuite bathroom.
In sentencing, Mrs. Justice McGowan described the youth as an “isolated and troubled young man” who sought solace in religion and came to believe it was justifiable to harm those who insulted his faith.
