Turkish security sources announced on Tuesday that 15 Palestinians, released by Israel as part of a cease-fire agreement between Tel Aviv and the Hamas movement, have arrived in Türkiye. This development was confirmed by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
The National Intelligence Organization (MIT) organized the trip under the directives of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to support the transfer.
Israel and Hamas reached a cease-fire after over two years of Israeli attacks on Gaza, which resulted in nearly 50,000 deaths and more than 100,000 injuries. Approximately 15,000 people from Gaza have been detained since the conflict began. As part of the cease-fire, an exchange of prisoners took place, with Israel agreeing to release Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life, provided they did not return to Palestine.
Last week, Fidan announced in Qatar that Palestinians displaced from their homeland would be welcomed by Türkiye and other countries.
Sources revealed that MIT coordinated the travel of the 15 Palestinians as part of an initial phase of a larger plan to resettle freed prisoners in another country. They made their journey to Türkiye through Egypt. Additional reports indicated that Türkiye is committed to providing the Palestinians with a “secure, happy life” in the country.
In a joint press conference with Egypt’s foreign minister, Fidan clarified that the admission of these individuals should not be misconstrued, emphasizing that Türkiye's actions are aimed at promoting peace.
