A man waving a joint Palestinian-Sudanese flag attempted to disrupt the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday, though the incident was not shown in the broadcast.
The individual, identified by activists as Zül-Qarnain Nantambu, a New Orleans resident, climbed onto a car used as a prop during Kendrick Lamar’s performance, displaying a flag with the words “Gaza” and “Sudan.” Nantambu then ran onto the football field while continuing to wave the flag. He later shared a photo on social media of himself being escorted by police.
According to the Associated Press, the NFL confirmed that Nantambu was part of a 400-member field cast and had concealed the flag on his person before revealing it. The New Orleans Police Department is reportedly considering which charges to file.
Nantambu, who describes himself on social media as a “financial freedom fighter,” hip hop artist, filmmaker, and fashion designer, typically focuses his online presence on his various ventures rather than activist causes. However, on October 14, 2023, he posted about the "liberation to land of much history and turmoil from the Dead Sea to the Red Sea, from holy Jerusalem to Jericho," adding, “On the isolated outskirts, there’s a strip where it’s Liberty or Death, victory for Gaza."
A devout Muslim, Nantambu also produces religious sermons, self-help content, and motivational material, seeking to inspire his audience.
