The Police Command in the FCT has confirmed that two individuals lost their lives in an explosion that occurred at the Tsangayar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in the Byazhin area of Abuja.

SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT, issued a statement on Monday confirming the incident.

She stated that the explosion took place around 11:00 am on Monday.

"Initial investigations suggest that three men from Katsina had visited the Islamic school owner, Malam Adamu Ashimu.

"It is suspected that the visitors brought the explosive device with them.

"Tragically, two of the men died after tampering with the improvised explosive device (IED) on the school veranda. The third man and a female trader suffered severe injuries and are now under medical care, guarded by the police," she explained.

Adeh also noted that the FCT Bomb Squad confirmed the explosion was caused by an IED, and remnants of the device have been recovered.
