Nigeria: Islamist militants kill six and abduct over 50 in Katsina State

At least six people have been killed by gunmen believed to be bandits in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.


Residents informed SaharaReporters that the attackers arrived in the village on Monday morning.


Upon reaching the village on motorcycles, the assailants began shooting indiscriminately, resulting in the deaths of six individuals.


The gunmen also reportedly abducted around 56 villagers.


A security source confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters, saying, “Bandits just kidnapped 56 people in Dandume, Katsina State, and killed six this morning; we're on our way there now for reinforcement.”


When SaharaReporters reached out to the spokesperson for the state police command, ASP Abubakar Sodiq Aliyu, for confirmation and comment, he asked for a text message, stating, “Can’t talk now. Please text me.”


As of the time of this report, he had not responded to the message.
