Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has urged the Federal Government to take stronger action in addressing the escalating insecurity in the state, as the death toll from recent attacks by suspected herdsmen in Ukum and Logo local government areas has risen to 56.

The governor made this appeal on Saturday during his visit to the attack sites in Ukum and Logo to assess the damage caused.

Speaking to journalists after touring the affected areas, Alia condemned the brutal attacks on the defenseless residents and called for enhanced efforts from security agencies to prevent further killings.

During the visit, the governor also engaged with local leaders and assured the community members of improved measures to combat insecurity.

In response to the attacks, security has been reinforced in the Sankera region to restore peace, while emergency services and relief supplies have been sent to the affected local government areas.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Plateau State, over 100 people have been killed in the past two weeks as violent assailants wreaked havoc on communities in the Bokkos and Bassa local government areas.
