Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has appointed Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem as his "representative" in Lebanon, according to Iranian media reports on Wednesday.

In an official decree, Khamenei introduced Sheikh Naim Qassem, the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, as his representative in Lebanon, Tasnim news agency reported.

The decree outlined that Qassem will act on behalf of Khamenei in managing "non-litigious matters" and overseeing "religious affairs" in Lebanon.

Tasnim also noted that Qassem's predecessor, Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Beirut on September 27, had previously held this position.

Hezbollah is part of the "axis of resistance," an alliance of Iran-backed groups opposed to Israel and its ally, the United States.
