A Hindu student with disabilities (Divyang), studying at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), filed a complaint with the Delhi police on October 19 this year.
She recounted being pressured to convert to Islam, wear a hijab, and renounce her Hindu faith at the government-funded university.
According to a report by Organiser, the student, who is pursuing a journalism degree at JMI, has faced harassment since July 2023.
The student, who has dyslexia, reportedly received warnings from other students to wear a hijab to avoid assault and to preserve her "noor." She was allegedly told, “Don’t you remember the Kolkata rape case? Those who refuse to wear the hijab face the same fate.”
In her complaint, she mentioned that an individual named Ibnay Saud shared her phone number in the Jamia Nagar area. Since then, she stated, she has been receiving disturbing calls, intruding on her privacy and sense of safety.
Additionally, she described enduring mocking remarks targeting her Hindu beliefs.
