A British holidaymaker is in a critical condition in Egypt after a random attacker slashed his throat in a supermarket, leaving his distraught mother pleading for a Christmas miracle to save him.
Belgin Seitmola, 33, described himself as the “victim of a senseless act of violence” while visiting the popular tourist destination of Sharm El-Sheikh.
Speaking to MailOnline through text, due to the severity of his injuries, the Romanian-born IT engineer from Luton, Bedfordshire, shared his urgent need to raise funds for life-saving surgery. He revealed he narrowly escaped death but now faces the daunting task of securing tens of thousands of pounds to cover his mounting medical expenses.
Belgin’s devastated mother, Omer Sena, 55, remains by his bedside, maintaining a constant vigil as the financial strain of his treatment continues to grow.
The unprovoked attack occurred on December 6 while Belgin was enjoying a pre-Christmas break. Despite no recent government travel warnings for the Red Sea resort, Omer has warned others about the dangers, claiming it is no longer safe for tourists.
Fighting back tears, she said: “It’s not safe for tourists. There are people who seem to hate tourists, and it feels like they’re being targeted. My son was in a supermarket, simply buying something to eat, when a criminal attacked him without any reason and stabbed him in the neck.
“It happened just because he is a tourist.”
