Digital India under Modi ji

Since coming to power in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a concerted effort to drive the development of digital infrastructure in India. His vision of a Digital India, where every citizen can access digital services, has been a critical focus of his government's policies and initiatives.

Under Modi's leadership, the government has launched several ambitious initiatives aimed at increasing digital literacy, expanding digital infrastructure, and promoting the adoption of technology across all sectors of the economy.

Digital Literacy:

One of the key components of Digital India is to increase digital literacy across the country. The government has launched several initiatives to achieve this goal. The Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyaan (PMGDISHA) is one such initiative aimed at providing digital literacy to rural households. Under this program, free digital literacy training is provided to one member of every household in rural areas.

Digital Infrastructure:

The Modi government has made significant investments in building digital infrastructure across the country. The BharatNet project, which aims to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to over 250,000-gram panchayats (village councils) in India, is one of the government's flagship programs. Under this program, over 400,000 km of optical fiber cable has been laid, and more than 150,000-gram panchayats have been connected to high-speed broadband.

The government has also launched several initiatives to promote the adoption of digital payments. The Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which allows instant money transfers between bank accounts using a mobile phone, has gained widespread adoption in the country. In December 2020, UPI processed over 2 billion transactions, with a total value of over $42 billion.

Digital Economy:

The Modi government has also made efforts to promote the adoption of technology across all sectors of the economy. The Start-up India program, launched in 2016, aims to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in the country. Under this program, start-ups are provided with a range of incentives, including tax benefits and access to funding.

The government has also launched several initiatives to promote e-commerce in the country. The Digital India e-commerce initiative, launched in 2020, aims to promote the adoption of e-commerce among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country. The initiative provides SMEs with access to a range of digital tools and platforms to help them sell their products and services online.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has made significant progress in its digital development. The government's initiatives have helped to increase digital literacy, expand digital infrastructure, and promote the adoption of technology across all sectors of the economy. With continued investment and focus on digital development, India has the potential to become a global leader in the digital economy.
