Germany has recently witnessed a series of violent attacks involving individuals of Afghan origin. Following a string of stabbing incidents, including one carried out by an Afghan migrant, another Afghan refugee reportedly drove a vehicle into pedestrians in Munich.
So far, 30 people have been reported injured in the incident. Authorities are investigating the attack, with early speculation pointing to potential mental health issues among asylum seekers in the country.
The suspect, a 24-year-old Afghan national, arrived in Germany as an unaccompanied minor in 2016. His asylum application was denied, but he remained in the country, engaging in social media activities that allegedly included promoting extremist content.
Despite being scheduled for deportation in 2017, delays allowed him to stay in Germany. Now, a child has reportedly been seriously injured in the attack.
Officials are currently working to determine the suspect’s motive while urging the public to remain calm.
